McLean U.S. Soccer Development Academy Tryouts for the 2010-2011 Season

Tryout sessions below will be held at Spring Hill Recreation Center – USSF Field # 2 – 1239 Spring Hill Road; McLean, VA  22102                

Tryouts will be held on the following dates and times based on the designated Age Group:

Wednesday, June 30
 
                        Times:
U-17/18 Tryout Sessions:  5:30 – 7:00 pm
                                    U-15/16 Tryout Sessions:  7:00 – 8:30 pm

Recent U.S. Soccer Development Academy Program News

The McLean U.S. Soccer Development Academy Program proudly announces several additions to its coaching staff.  Joining the MPS coaching staff, including Clyde Watson (MYS Technical Director) German Peri, and Marcelo Valencia, the MYS Development Academy staff for the program’s second year will now include top coaches from area professional, collegiate, high school and club soccer communities.

For the 2010-2011 season, the club welcomes Zachary Samol, Georgetown University Men’s Soccer Assistant Coach, as the Academy Director.  Coach Samol brings two years of experience as a Head Coach of U-15/16 and U-17/18 teams within the US Soccer Development Academy program. 

Anthony Hudson
, current Head Coach of Real Maryland (a USL Second Division Professional Club), will be the program’s U-17/18 Head Coach.  Coach Hudson is a former professional player, and one of the youngest coaches ever to obtain the prestigious UEFA A license from the English Football Association. 

John O’Hara, Assistant Coach at George Mason University, has been added as a member of the coaching staff.  A native of Ireland, Coach O’Hara attended Mason where he earned numerous honors as a Goalkeeper culminating in his 2009 induction into the Men’s Soccer Hall of Fame at his alma mater. 

Assisting the coaching staff on the administrative side is Melissa
Riemer, who has over ten years of travel team and club administration, including two years of experience as a Development Academy administrator.

The U.S. Soccer Development Academy is a partnership between U.S. Soccer and the top youth clubs around the country to provide the best youth players in the U.S. with an every day environment designed to produce the next generation of National Team players. The Academy’s programming philosophy of increased training, less total games and more competitive games is based on U.S. Soccer’s Best Practices.  McLean Youth Soccer was selected as an Academy club by U.S. Soccer in 2009. 
 
Tryouts for the McLean Development Academy program’s 2010-2011 season will begin the week of June 21.

DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY TEAMS PREPARE FOR SPRING SHOWCASE

Make-up games prepare players for Sarasota

 

With home and away games throughout April and May, the MYS Development Academy teams are staying in shape for the Spring Showcase in Sarasota, Florida.
 
Led by Coaches German Peri and Marcelo Valencia, the U16 and U18 MYS Academy teams head to Greensboro and Raleigh, North Carolina to face off against CASL Chelsea FC and Greensboro Youth Soccer's Development Academy teams the weekend of May 15th and 16th.
The last home games of the season will be played Sunday, May 23rd, with the U16s kicking off at 8am and the U18s following at 10am. The teams will host Greensboro Youth Soccer at LP2.
With those three games as a warm-up, the Development Academy teams will head to Sarasota for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Spring Showcase, May 28th-31st. Meeting up with the other 76 clubs (and 152 teams), the MYS Development Academy teams will match up against Irvine Strikers, Solar SC, and Met Oval under the watchful eyes of U.S. Soccer national team scouts, as well as coaches from more than 300 top colleges and universities.

Games Being Rescheduled as Snow Starts to Melt

With two away trips and two home weekends postponed due to weather, McLean Youth Soccer's U.S. Soccer Development Academy teams have not seen much action as of late.

The weekend of March 6th and 7th sees the teams travelling to North Meck and Charlotte Soccer Academy to play the first games since an early January 1 game road trip.

Weather obliging, the next home games will be March 13th and 14th at Spring Hill Rec against Greensboro Soccer Club and North Meck. check back often at the U.S. Soccer site to see the additional two games that will be played at home.
