McLean's Force Green '96 Wins Virginia State Cup Championship

RICHMOND, VA (Nov. 4, 2012) – McLean Premier Soccer’s (MPS) Force Green ’96 dominated PWSI Courage Red ’96 in a 3-0 shut-out to win the U16 Girls Fall 2012 Virginia State Cup Championship today.


In its path to the title game, MPS Force Green ’96 defeated VAFC U16 Green 2-1 (on Sept. 15 in Roanoke), top-seed and U15G State Cup Champions VSA Heat Blue ’96 1-0 (on Sept. 29 in Haymarket), SOC SOCA Storm 7-0 (on Oct. 13 in McLean), and VBTS 96G Beach FC 3-1 (on Oct. 27 in Richmond) in the semi-final match. A total of 25 U16 girls teams from across Virginia vied for the State Cup title in 2012 – the entire bracket and match results can be viewed here.


The Force Green ’96 State Cup Roster is composed of girls from the MPS U16 player pool, which includes more than 30 players from both the MPS Travel and Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) programs. MPS Force ECNL ’96 Head Coach Nadir Moumen coached the Force Green’s State Cup team to victory, with MYS Technical Director Clyde Watson assisting.


"I'm really happy for the girls,” said Coach Moumen. “They have developed so much and worked so hard, it is great for them to see a reward for their dedication. We are looking forward to competing against the best teams in the Region."

The Force Green team has now qualified to compete in the 2013 US Youth Soccer (USYS) Region I Championships June 27- July 2 in Kingston, RI. The Region I Championships consist of USYS State Champions from 15 Eastern states (Connecticut, Delaware, Eastern New York, Eastern Pennsylvania, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York West, Pennsylvania West, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia), drawn wildcard entries and USYS Region I Premier League wildcard teams.


The MPS Force Green ’96 was accepted to compete in the USYS Region I Premier League in the Spring of 2013 and will compete in the Disney (Dec. 31-Jan. 3), Jefferson Cup (Mar. 15-17) and PDA (May 25-27) Showcase tournaments as well.
