MYS Academy

U9 Academy Lesson #7

Game day warm up provided – scrimmage session (no rotation)

Due to Halloween on 10/31, we will cancel the 5.15-6pm session for that evening only.

Warm-Ups:

 Musical balls (# 66) - Time: 5 minutes

Each player has a ball coned-off area. On command, all players must leave their ball and find a new ball to dribble. The last player to get a ball should then have the ball removed. Remove up to four balls so that players will work quicker to get to a loose ball. Add the balls back in towards the end.

Technical objective

Develop the ability to identify and sprint to a loose ball. Lifting the head at every opportunity

Ball stretching (# 4) - Time: 5 minutes

Players stand with their legs apart. Roll the ball with their hands through their legs eight times in a figure of eight. Next, have the player’s place one leg forward and one leg back. Roll the ball around the front foot ten times and then switch feet.

Technical objective

Prepare players’ for practice. (Safety note: it is important to have your players move first before stretching. Stretching should also be slow and static)

Notes

After warm up, each team will have two scrimmages in the allotted time, before dark. If there is an odd team, that team will scrimmage amongst themselves while waiting to play.
