Recent MPS Power News

The Power will be expanding their roster and are presently inviting serious, committed players to contact Head Coach Clyde Watson (202-345-0765) or Manager Dave Johnson (drjohnson@velaw.com) to come to sessions in May as part of the rolling tryout process in anticipation for ECNL play starting late summer 2011. Several roster spots are available, but a limited number of formal tryout sessions will be planned for June 2011.  Throughout May 2011, however, the coaches are entertaining interested players who want to play ECNL.  Now is the time to come have coaches look at you to get feedback in advance of the end of season.

The Power have had tremendous success over the course of the 2010-2011 campaign, winning championships at Greensboro, Disney and Jefferson Cup, and playing strong soccer in front of hundreds of college coaches at Las Vegas, Disney, Discovery Cup, etc. The team’s lone junior is committed to a premier Division 1 program, and college coaches’ lists across the country include names of the sophomores on the team. If you desire to play soccer at the highest level possible, and have the support of coaches in the McLean club who have placed hundreds of players in college programs nationwide, now is the time to inquire.

MPS Power Win at Disney!

Power cap amazing comeback, winning at Disney . . .

Turning the corner from December 2010 to January 2011, the Power won a Championship at Disney's Soccer Showcase (Girls) Presented by Chelsea Football Club, capping an amazing and improbable tournament finish with a 2-0 victory in the Final over Ponte Vedra 94/95 Storm of Florida.

Coming into the last day of regular play, the Power faced almost certain elimination. While the Power had a mathematical chance to reach the finals, the tie breaker formulae was stacked against the Power, which had yielded 3 goals in the first two matches and were scheduled to play a very strong New Jersey (ranked #3 in New Jersey) squad which had won both its matches, had not yielded a goal and held a +3 net goal advantage. Stunning the field, the Power made its reservation for a spot in the Championship Final by ripping off a 5-0 win, which caused the Power to prevail under the tie breaker formula by one goal.

The Power’s play at Disney -- one of the elite tournaments in the country -- reflected a wonderful job of coaching by Clyde Watson, German Peri and Jamil Faryadi.

An excellent run by the Power so far this seasonal year – Greensboro Champions, Discovery Cup finalists and Disney Champions! The Power next will play either or both the Jefferson Cup and the Las Vegas College Showcase this coming spring.

Thanks Disney for a great tournament, with fantastic fields – a wonderful way to finish 2010 and start 2011!

Greensboro Labor Day adidas Shootout Showcase Champions

The Power completed the Greensboro adidas Labor Day Shootout showcase undefeated and U16 premier CHAMPIONS.  Over the course of the weekend, the Power competed against some of North carolina's best teams:  North Caroline Fusion (Winston-Salem, NC) (Gotsoccer #3 in North Carolina); Triangle FC (Gotsoccer #6 in North Carolina); and Charlotte United (Gotsoccer #9 in North Carolina).  As always the fields in Greensboro were fantastic and GYS' hospitality was wonderful -- the Power and MPS look forward to returning to Greensboro in the future.
