MYS and Neal Bowes, Certified Sport Psychologist (AASP, CC) of Simply Performance Group (SPG) have formed a partnership to bring sports psychology support to McLean Youth Soccer.
Neal has volunteered countless hours working with MYS to create our first partnership project -- the Team Sideline Liaison (TSL) program, a leading edge effort that has produced great results within the club and garnered significant notice outside the club. He is also playing a major role in MYS’ implementation of the TSL program. Neal will also be writing a series of articles for the MYS sweeper newsletter.
Neal is a former professional player from England, coach and former national level collegiate selector. Neal specializes in developing mental skills with players and educating coaches and parents on psychological aspects of performance.
Neal has provided support for athletes at the last 3 Olympic Games and also supports professional, national and local players. He has trained several thousand coaches in the UK and USA on psychological principles of coaching children.

From a soccer perspective Neal works with payers in developing their ability to prepare effectively for games, developing key psychological skills such as confidence, mental toughness, emotional control, anxiety control, focusing, decision making, recovering from mistakes, motivation, and dealing with pressure. He also works with teams to maximize their communication, cohesion and group dynamics.

Originally from New Haven, Connecticut, Dr. Christopher Annunziata was drawn to the field of orthopaedics because of the opportunity it would give him to care for individuals of all ages and to restore or enhance the function of people with injury or chronic musculoskeletal ailments. Dr. Annunziata earned a BS from Boston College before graduating with his medical degree from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at Georgetown University Medical Center and went on to complete a fellowship in Sports Medicine/Knee and Shoulder Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Sports Medicine Center.
With a special interest in sports medicine, Dr. Annunziata enjoys helping athletes return to their sport after an injury. He also enjoys educating and advising patients of all ages about their musculoskeletal health. In addition to sports related injuries, Dr. Annunziata treats complex problems of the shoulder, elbow, knee, and ankle, performs all types of ligament reconstruction, arthroplasty of the knee and shoulder, and a complete array of arthroscopic surgeries.
Active in the academics of sports medicine, Dr. Annunziata is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Georgetown University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery where he received the Peter Kenmore Award for Excellence in Resident Education in 2001. He also carries his love for sports medicine into the community where he serves as team physician for the DC United Major League Soccer team, consultant for McLean Youth Soccer, lecturer for multiple athletic societies, and team physician for James Madison High School in Virginia.
Dr. Annunziata’s wife Christina is a physician and PhD graduate working in oncology research at the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health. The Annunziata’s are the proud parents of two young boys. In his leisure time, Dr. Annunziata participates in ice hockey, softball, running, and cycling.
