Subject to the availability of funds, MYS shall offer financial aid for soccer related costs to those members that demonstrate a need or financial hardship. The decision to make any award, the amount thereof, and the beneficiaries shall be made on a defined set of decision factors which are consistently applied under the circumstances. Notwithstanding the forgoing, all award decisions are made at the sole discretion of the MYS Financial Aid Committee and the Chairman of the MYS Board. The application information will be kept confidential within the MYS Financial Aid Committee.

Applications received by the July or August deadline may request consideration for an award for both the fall and spring seasons or the fall season only. Applications received by the early deadline each season (July and January) may receive preferential consideration based on the availability of aid funds.
Eligibility – Any MYS member (house, travel, MPS, TOPS, U-5) that meets the qualification requirements is eligible to apply for financial aid. Qualification is primarily based on family income. In general, those with annual family income that does not exceed 60% of the median family income in Fairfax County are eligible for aid. In 2008, the eligibility threshold is annual family income not exceeding $75,500. Other factors such as unemployment or other financial hardships may be considered by the Financial Aid Committee.
Amount of Aid Award – The Board or Treasurer of MYS shall determine the amount of the financial aid available for a season; however, there is no obligation to award all/any of the award pool. Based on the amount of the award pool and the amount of requests for financial aid, awards will be made on a sliding scale based on reported family income. The maximum amount of an award to an individual for a season shall not exceed (a) 100% of the registration fee paid for a House, TOPS, or U-5 player, ($205.50 max) (b) 300% of the early (discounted) membership fee for a Travel player ($600.00 max), or (c) 350% of the early (discounted) membership fee for a MPS player ($700.00 max). Annual awards shall not exceed double the seasonal limits noted above.
Application Process - Applications for financial aid are available online and must be completed and returned to MYS. Applicants must register the player in the MYS registration system each season on a timely basis. Applications will be evaluated by the MYS Treasurer, House Commissioner, and Travel Director (the “Financial Aid Committee”). The Treasurer shall present the proposed aid awards to the Chairman of the MYS Board for approval. Notification of aid awards shall be sent via email to each applicant. For travel/MPS players, their team manager may be notified via email to coordinate payment of the aid award if registration fees have been paid previously.
Annual awards will be paid in equal amounts at the beginning of each season subject to applicant’s re-registration and confirmation of continuing need in the spring season. All MYS registration fees must be paid in full (by aid award or otherwise) on a timely basis for the player to be eligible to play for or train with their MYS team.
Other Opportunities – MYS has a limited number of compensated positions (e.g., referees, field set up, camp assistants, etc.) and volunteer positions (e.g., Age Group Coordinators, tournament volunteers, etc.) which offer individuals an opportunity to cover registration costs or to give back to MYS.
