Girls Coaches

Shannon Foley.

USSF National “D” License (pending)

Shannon has coached at MPS for the past two years. She has worked with the U9-U11 girl's age group. Previously, she played soccer at the University of Virginia as a forward and midfielder. She broke three assist records while there and won an ACC title. She was involved with the US Youth National teams from age 13 to 21 and won a National Championship with her club team in California in 2002.  She participated on the 2003 McDonald’s All-American team, was a three-time NSCAA All-American, and two-time Parade All-American.


Denise Horacek.
USSF National “E” License

Denise was an Assistant Coach for Juniors last season. She grew up playing soccer in Washington Area Girls Soccer League (WAGS) here in the Northern Virginia area. She serves as a strong role model for many of our competitive girl players. Her strong technical ability, positive attitude, and ability to relate to young girls and boys make her an asset to the Juniors program. She is a graduate of James Madison University and while at JMU played competitively on the JMU club soccer team.


Brent Heupel.

USSF National Youth License

Brent has coached in McLean for three years. During that time, he has served as an Age Group Coach for the MPS 99 and MPS 00 Boys travel teams, a coach for the Ballmasters program, and as the Assistant Director of McLean’s U7 Academy program. A two year letterman at James Madison High School, Brent played NCSL Division 1 travel soccer with FPYC and was selected to the ODP District team.

 

 


Boys Coaches

Brandon
Lamb.

USSF National "D" License (Pending)

Brandon is an assistant coach with the Junior Boys. Brandon has coached in McLean for one year. Brandon grew up playing soccer in a competitive suburb of Connecticut right outside New York City. During Brandon's high school tenure he won All-Area and All-County first team selections and his team was ranked as high as third in the nation by NSCAA. He continued playing in college as a four-year starter, captain, and MVP at the University of Mary Washington. Brandon continues to play competitive soccer in the Washington Premier League. Brandon enjoys opportunities to work with players individually on technical development and has a passion for fitness that is a positive influence on the program.


Dave Winfree.
USSF National “D” License

Dave is as an Assistant Coach with the Junior Boys. His other roles within MPS include the lead Age Group Coach with the MPS '02 Girls Phoenix squad and
and assistant role with the boys MPS '01 Rangers. Dave has over a decade of coaching experience from clubs across Virginia. His experience and positive demeanor in working with boys and girls of varying ages is an asset to the Juniors program.


Mike Foss Jr.
USSF National “D” License

Mike is an assistant coach with the Juniors. He has coached in McLean for 1 year. Mike played collegiately at George Mason University from 2007-2010 and was a four-time winner of the CAA Commissioner’s Award.  At the club level, Mike was an accomplished player where he was a member of D.C. United's U-17 team, the National ODP Pool, and the Real Salt Lake U-23 Premier Development Team.  Mike's background of playing at top clubs and at college level gives him a unique insight into the game. He is dedicated to teaching proper technique.  Mike brings a great presence to the
Juniors program.


Shawn
Kuykendall.
USSF National “C” License

Shawn is an assistant coach with the
Juniors.  He has coached in McLean for 6 years in the U9-U13 age groups while also playing professional soccer for D.C. United.  While growing up in Northern Virginia, Shawn won 6 State Championships and a National Championship while playing for the US Youth National teams.  After graduating from high school, he lived in Holland and played with the club T.O.P. Oss before attending American University.  At AU, he led the Eagles to 3 NCAA tournament appearances and 2 Conference Championships. He ranks second all-time in assists and earned the distinction of being named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year in 2004 while at AU. In 2005, he was drafted by D.C. United.  Currently, Shawn is an assistant coach to the AU men's soccer team.  Shawn’s energy, enthusiasm, and love of the game is contagious.  He is an example of the best aspects of youth soccer development.



Mike Nagelin.
Juniors Boys Head Coach

Mike has coached in McLean for almost 10 years.  He has served as the Age Group Head Coach for the ’01 and ’98 MPS Boys, Juniors Boys Head Coach, and Age Group Coach for the ’96 and ’94 MPS/MYS Boys.  Mike played travel soccer for Beach FC, Atlantic SC (now VA Rush), and JASA (NC) and was an All-District selection, Captain, and Athlete of the Year at Tallwood High School (VA Beach, VA).   He went on to play American Football at the College of William and Mary, where he was a National Player of the Week, All-Conference, and Walk-On Hall of Fame selection while earning his undergraduate and graduate degrees.
