MYS All Star Coaches Share Their Team’s Experiences

U8 Boys:  McLean Green U-8 Boys Team, also known as The McLean Blazers, had a fantastic All Stars tournament in Herndon during the weekend of November 16-17, 2013.  The win/loss/draw record of three wins (6-0, 5-0, and 5-3), three losses (1-3, 3-5, and 0-5), and a hard-fought 1-1 draw tells only part of the story.  Whatever the score-line, the boys continued to play hard and never gave up.  They proudly carried the banner of McLean Youth Soccer and embodied its highest principles of sportsmanship.

U10 Boys:  McLean Youth Soccer’s U-10 Boys Allstar Team emerged victorious in the Herndon Youth Soccer’s Allstar Tournament held at Baron Cameron Park among seventeen regional teams on 16-17 November. “McLean United” earned a spot in the upper playoff bracket by winning four straight games in the initial tournament round. In the subsequent single-elimination round, McLean defeated Prince William County 3-1 and, in the final, host team Herndon by the same score. Herndon, which also entered the final undefeated, fought valiantly and scored first in the first half. However, McLean sweeper Joe Musgrove rocketed in a 30-yard equalizer early in the second half. Five minutes later, McLean halfback Eli Nassif converted on a penalty kick for the go-ahead goal. Finally, the “green-shirts” took the game out of contention when forward Will Broad threaded a shot from the right side through Herdon defenders with ten minutes remaining.

U11 Boys:  The championship game was great - the boys came back from a 1-0 half-time deficit,  tied the game and won in a shootout 4-3.  It was a great overall team effort.

U12 Boys:  Our All-Star team was ranked seed #3, and made it to the finals at the Herndon All-Star Cup Tournament Black division, and we finished in 2nd place, and all the players got a 2nd place trophy.

U13 Girls:  It was such a great weekend.  I think all the girls had fun. We ended the 4 mini-games undefeated (3win/1tie) and ranked #2 of 12 teams.  We won the semi-final match
n Pk's!! then lost in the finals to Vienna #1 ranked (2-1). It was an exciting and fun weekend.

U14 Boys:   All Star team won their group during the Herndon All Star tournament.  They team won both the final and semi-final games in PK.

U16 Boys:  Coach Chris Peterson’s team won a finalist trophy during the 2013 All Star’s Cup.  Max Van Buskirk stopped three penalty kicks and Gabriel Chavez converted the final kick to send McLean through 2-1 on penalties in their semifinal match against bracket 2 top-seed Reston.  Herndon’s on-site coordinator said MYS U16B White was the “surprise” of the tournament at the South Run matches! Congratulations boys!

U19 Boys:  We had a great effort in preparing and playing the HYS All Star Cup Tournament where we played exciting and skillful soccer.  The Tournament highlight was our Qualification Round Match with top-seeded Herndon (0-0) where we played at a very high level building on our experience in the 3 previous matches.  Although we came up short (0-1) in the Championship Round Match with SYA, we played with great effort and intensity. The team consisted of High School Juniors & Seniors, College Freshmen, International and former Travel Players assembled from our two U19B SFL teams.  Thanks for all the help from Co-Coaches, Sandro Trigo, Mario Guillen, Vince Sprouls and Josue' Ugarte and for your help in getting us registered.
