By Webmaster

MYS has renewed its commitment to supporting all of our Coaches. This Fall we are offering a Recreation Coaching Clinic from our very own Coach Bill Creswick. This MYS Coaching Clinic is aimed at solving some of the challenges you are encountering now that the season is in full swing. Coach Bill will give you practical ideas and suggestions about how to improve your coaching at practice and at games. From the novice coach to the seasoned veteran, we all benefit from exchanging ideas. I hope many of you will attend and continue to grow in your coaching, passing along your love for the game to all of the players.

A soccer veteran, Coach Bill Creswick's 35-year career includes coaching experience at the youth, high school and college levels.  He's been a fixture in area leagues having earned eleven trips to Virginia State Cup championship rounds and guiding successive teams to elite levels in both NCSL and WAGS.  He counts among former players NCAA all-conference and all-region honorees.  Today, in addition to focusing chiefly on our youngest enthusiasts, Bill spends a growing portion of his time sharing his expertise with new coaches from many area Clubs.  He is nationally accredited with USSF, NSCAA and VHSL certifications.

U8-9 Coaches Clinic

Saturday, October 19; 4 pm - 6 pm; MYS Field

In response to the question most frequently asked by coaches:  "How can I get my players to spread out?," Coach Bill Creswick will suggest a way to map the field using the visual cues of a playing surface that can be shared with young players to promote independent thinking and decision-making.  He will build on the subject by demonstrating a practical method that introduces ways for teaching youngsters how to better use the space of a larger field, encouraging experimentation and reinforcing young attacking minds.  Coaches may be asked to help demonstrate practice methods so should wear comfortable clothes and running shoes.  Recommend bringing a ball, notebook and something to write with.

U10-11 Coaches Clinic

Sunday, October 20; 1 pm - 3 pm; MYS Field

Join us for a session with Coach Bill Creswick who will highlight those soccer techniques currently judged most important for the U10 and U11 soccer player by US Soccer - ball control, running with the ball, passing, receiving, turning, and shooting.  If you are a first-time coach, or one just looking for new ideas, Coach Bill will guide you through some of his favorite practices for young players that target essential skills, improve ability and increase chances for success.  Coaches may be asked to help demonstrate practice methods so should wear comfortable clothes and running shoes.  Recommend bringing a ball, notebook and something to write with.

Please RSVP for either of these clinics by emailing melissa.riemer@mcleansoccer.org by October 15th.
