Louise Waxler Brings Wealth of Experience to MYS

Dear Members of McLean Youth Soccer:

I am pleased to announce that MYS has hired Louise Waxler as the club’s Executive Director. Following a national search, the Search Committee and Board of Directors determined that Louise was the right person to assume this important role within our club.

Louise has more than 25 years of experience in professional and amateur soccer management on the international and local levels. Most recently she served as President and CEO for the National Association of Tournament Directors (NATD).  In that role, she oversaw all NATD business operations with a strong focus on identifying new opportunities to bring enhanced value to members and the sports industry as a whole.

Prior to her leadership with the NATD, Louise served as the General Manager for Philadelphia Independence of Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS), where she created the infrastructure and staffing for team and business operations.  She was also responsible for game day operations/management of the women’s professional soccer team.  Previous positions included overseeing and coordinating team and game day operations of the Washington Freedom women’s professional soccer team and Director of Soccer Programs for the Maryland Soccer Foundation.

In 2006, Louise was elected as the 58th President of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), the largest soccer coaches’ organization in the world. She was only the third female in the 69 years of the organization to hold the office of President and the first person selected to the position who had not been a coach. (A great insight into Louise’s passion for the sport can be found [HERE+].

She began her soccer career with the Soccer Association of Columbia (SAC) in 1985 as the Director of the Columbia Invitational Soccer Tournament and served in that capacity until joining the Maryland Soccer Foundation in 2006.

Louise is widely recognized and respected for her experience running youth and professional sports and soccer events. She served as Director of the Washington Area Girls Soccer Tournament; Operations Director at RFK Stadium for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Tournament; was a member of the staff at the Adidas/Disney International Youth Soccer Tournament; and served as Director of Discovery Cup Soccer Tournament.

In 2010, Louise was a recipient of the NSCAA Women's Committee Award of Excellence which recognizes those who have brought honor and distinction to women's soccer. In October 2011, Louise was inducted into the Howard County Maryland Recreation and Parks Hall of Fame for her personal contributions and achievements in respect to community sports.

Over the past two decades Louise has had the opportunity to see the game of soccer played at every level and she truly believes youth soccer can have the most positive impact on the life of a child. When asked what motivates her about soccer Louise replied, “What I love the most is seeing kid’s play the game at every level.”

This along with other comments and her firm commitment to player development confirmed for myself and the other members of the search committee that in hiring Louise we bring to the club an individual that not only shares the core values of MYS, but also one who will fulfill the Executive Director role in a manner that Board of Directors and you, our members, would want.

We look forward to all of the contributions that Louise can bring to the benefit of our membership. We believe that Louise will help to further professionalize the management of our club, provide an increased level of support to our paid technical staff and the hundreds of parent volunteers who tirelessly, work for the betterment of youth soccer in our community. We will be putting together some opportunities for Louise to meet the members of MYS personally and hope that you will join Louise and other members of the Board and MYS families cheering on the McLean and Langley High School Boys and Girls varsity soccer teams at the upcoming McLean Cup on May 2nd at McLean High School.

Louise will officially join MYS on April 1, 2012 and can be reached by email at exdir@mcleansoccer.org.

Best regards,
Maureen Dalbec
