U13-U19 Program

MYS Recreation Players (U13 and older) play on MYS teams which participate in the Suburban Friendship League (SFL) - a Recreation League in Northern VA. No tryouts are required or permitted.

The Suburban Friendship League (SFL) has been operating since the fall 1990 season providing scheduling services for recreational soccer teams. The league's charter and decisions are based on whether the result is for the good of the players. During the spring and fall seasons, the SFL provides scheduling services to between 450 and 500 teams representing almost 30 different clubs. The primary age groups covered are the Under 13, Under 14, Under 16, and Under 19 Boys and Girls.

Each fall, coaches and age group coordinators get together to form teams. The core group of most teams stay together year after year. Drafts are held on the rare occasion when there is a group of new coaches and/or a large number of new players in an age group.

  • U13-U19 teams have at least EIGHT practices and EIGHT games per season, plus an end-of-season tournament (subject to weather conditions).
  • Teams practice for 90 minutes once per week with their volunteer/parent coach.
  • Individual volunteer coaches may organize an additional 90 minute practice per week, which is optional.
  • On Saturdays and/or Sundays, each team plays one game against another team in the Northern Virginia area in their age group.

  • MYS volunteer coaches will hold tryouts in each age group in order to field teams for an end-of-season, all-star tournament. Players must be registered and playing on an MYS team to be eligible to try out.
