Board of Directors Bios
Michael Dalakis

Michael is an attorney with strong governance and entrepreneurial business experience. He's a lifelong soccer player who has coached and managed teams from the recreation level to the elite level. He strives to continuously stay educated on the constantly changing soccer landscape at all levels from the local to the international. Michael currently has one child in the MYS travel program.

Sharon King Donohue

Sharon is an attorney with substantial experience in nonprofit governance and currently serves as General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for the National Committee for Quality Assurance ("NCQA"), a nonprofit health care accrediting body. In her role at NCQA, she is responsible for managing all of the operations of the Board of Directors and serves as an advisor to the Board on governance best practices and risk management. She has been involved with MYS for over 10 years in many capacities on both the recreational side of soccer and the travel side, including as a prior coach and team manager (ECNL and WAGS) and most recently on the Governance Committee.

Rich Irons

In addition to being Senior Vice President at First Citizens Bank, Rich has extensive experience in non-profit leadership. He was on the Board of Directors for Tyson's Chamber of Commerce for seven years, including chairing the Board in 2009. He is currently Vice Chair for Celebrate Fairfax. He has been an MYS Recreation coach for six years and an MYS All-Star coach for four seasons. He has three daughters playing MYS travel soccer.

Bryan Judd

Bryan is the Chief Financial Officer of Altamira Technologies Corporation, a government contractor headquartered in McLean. Bryan is responsible for all accounting, treasury, legal, security and facilities operations and has led numerous mergers and acquisitions. Bryan also serves as the Secretary and Treasurer for Altamira's parent company, Lightyear Acquisition Company, LLC. Bryan sits on the Board of Directors of the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Northern Virginia Technology Council Executive Circle. Bryan lives in McLean with his wife Ellie and has three boys who play for MYS.

Michael Kunz

Michael Kunz is a Managing Partner of Orizon Consulting LLC, a development assistance firm enabling new markets and empowering leaders to transform local economies through the application of breakthrough technologies promoting increased access to energy, low carbon emissions, and economic growth. Mr. Kunz has served in senior capacities representing international organizations among national and sub-national governments, corporations, foundations, and other stakeholders to structure and manage complex economic growth and youth development programs. He has worked in the developing and emerging economies of Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Europe. In McLean, Mr. Kunz has supported youth sports for many years as a volunteer for the McLean Youth Soccer Scholarship Committee and as a McLean Youth Basketball coach for boys and girls. He lives with his wife and two children in McLean.

Laura Mattis

Laura has 20 years of experience working in the Telecommunications and Information Technology arenas and has a vast amount of experience in sales & business development, employee & organizational development, project & program management, consulting, and social media. She currently works as a government contractor in IT and is passionate about leveraging technology and enhancing business performance. Laura has been involved with MYS since 2012, as a Recreation and All-Star coach for her daughters' teams and as a member of the MYS Recreation Committee. Laura has three children who currently play in the Recreation and Travel programs with MYS. Laura's personal interests include running, spending time with family, and volunteering. Laura is a graduate of McLean High School (a local!) and Indiana University (Bloomington, IN).

Brian Luwis

Brian is a local architect and commercial real estate developer. He co-founded one of the largest international adoption agencies and he previously served on the MYS Governance Committee. Brian currently has two children in the MYS program.

Whitney Bergendahl

Whitney is a management consultant with the federal government. He is a lifelong soccer player whose experience includes DII NCAA at Notre Dame College. He has served on the MYS Travel Committee. Whitney is a volunteer coach for MYS Recreation and currently has two children in the MYS program.

Kirk Robertson

Kirk Robertson is the President of Terra Vista Capital, Inc. During the Clinton and Bush Administrations he was the Executive Vice President and Interim President of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation. Kirk has held various management and policy-related appointments in the US Senate and worked at an international law firm. He has served on corporate, non-profit and government Boards. He received his BA from Grinnell College and his MBA from the George Washington University. Kirk has been involved in MYS as a Recreation team coach, referee, parent of two MYS footballers, and member of the 2014 MYS Board Nominating Committee. He was a varsity soccer defender in college and has played in adult leagues.

James Socas

James is a general partner at Updata Partners, a growth equity firm in Washington DC. He has served as an MYS Recreational coach, an All-Star team coach, and as Chair of the MYS Board of Directors. James also serves on the Board of Managers of the Alumni Association of the University of Virginia, as a trustee and Treasurer of the Potomac School, and was previously appointed to serve two terms on Virginia's Board of Corrections. He has one son who plays MYS travel soccer.
