MYS and Coerver Partner for Juniors Program

McLean Youth Soccer has announced a partnership with Coerver United, the World's #1 Soccer Skills Teaching Method. Founded in 1984 by Wiel Coerver, Alf Galustian and Chelsea great, Charlie Cooke, Coerver Coaching has worked with some of the biggest and best clubs and federations from all across the globe. Most notably: the French Football Association, Football Federation of Australia, Chinese Football Association, Japanese Football Association, Newcastle United FC and Arsenal FC. Coerver United is also a Global partner with Adidas.

Specific to McLean Youth Soccer, Coerver United will be partnering to manage the U8 Juniors Program for the 2018-2019 seasonal year. The Juniors program is a year-long, pre-travel training program for a select group of focused, engaged players who love to play soccer. Players will be introduced to the Coerver method, which focuses on developing skilled, confident and creative players. Coerver and MYS coaches will work side by side to nurture a growth-mindset around skill acquisition and knowledge of the game. The coaches focus on nurturing a genuine enjoyment of the game and pose the game of soccer as a game of decision-making and problem-solving. Juniors train twice a week and play inner-squad "Game Days" on Saturdays in the fall and spring, and train once a week on Sunday afternoons in the winter, in conjunction with the "Ballmasters" program.

Coerver United has a curriculum that has been shared and developed across their global organization for the last 34 years. They will be bringing this curriculum and methodology directly to the U8 Boys and Girls in the Juniors Program at McLean Youth Soccer. The program will be personally directed by Coerver United's Virginia Director, Vincent Caltabiano.

"We are thrilled to further develop our relationship with MYS. Coming off a successful three years working together on a Summer Camp Program to our new Juniors Program, the future is bright for Coerver and MYS. I am anxious to get on the field and start working with the young players of McLean Youth Soccer," Vincent Caltabiano, Director of Coerver VA.

"Partnering with Coerver United to oversee our U-8 Junior Program is truly a special step for McLean. This is a significant age for technical development, and now McLean has one of the most recognized names in the world influencing our players progress," states Keith Tabatznik, MYS Director of Soccer.

"We are extremely excited to work with the rising stars of MYS and introduce them to Coerver United. Our goal is to provide each player with a strong technical foundation and the confidence to deal with the ball. It's going to be a great year and we can't wait to get started!" Ryan Parisi, Managing Partner Coerver United

MYS U8 Juniors Program

The Juniors program is a year-long, pre-travel training program for a select group of focused, engaged players who love to play soccer. Players are introduced to a deliberate training environment, which focuses on player autonomy & creativity. Coaches nurture a growth-mindset around skill acquisition and knowledge of the game, and teach the "recurring constants" of the game (scanning, shape, body positioning) through a play-based curriculum. The coaches focus on nurturing a genuine enjoyment of the game and pose the game of soccer as a game of decision-making and problem-solving. McLean Juniors are problem-solvers.

The technical, cognitive, and character curriculum evolves with individual groups of players and their needs. Each season cycles through the technical elements of dribbling, passing, & receiving. Cognitively, players gain knowledge and understand of scanning, spacing, and act as "decision makers" on the field (knowing how to pass & how to dribble is different from knowing when to pass & when to dribble). Coaches also anchor the curriculum in soccer-specific character elements which impact Juniors' careers both as players and as people. Juniors train twice a week, and play inner-squad "Game Days" on Saturdays in fall and spring, and train once a week on Sunday afternoons in the winter, in conjunction with the "Ballmasters" program.
