A competitive season boiled down to a final game between the first and second place teams that were separated by a single point. The Real White girls were focused on the championship and controlled the game from the kickoff. Throughout the final match, they showed the skills and teamwork that had improved with each game during the season. Timely goals built through possession and grit and an unyielding defense resulted in a convincing 2-0 shutout. It was truly a team win built on communication, consistency, high pressure and possession maintained through rapid speed of play.
Real White is a small team of scholar athletes that moved up through the division structure over the years. They successfully integrated new girls in the new age structure of the 2016-17 season. Throughout the Fall and Spring seasons, Real White built a cohesive and selfless team that produced goals from 10 different girls in the championship spring season and the fewest goals against in the division. Coach Finney praised his girls as "One of the best groups in regards to chemistry, work ethic, and love for the game." MYS Travel Team - Tournament Wrap-Up November 19-20, 2016

2007 Boys White

On Nov 19/20, the MYS Boys 2007 White team had an outstanding tournament at the Bethesda Premier Cup. The results were good, but more importantly, everyone could see how much the boys have progressed in both their individual development and team play. Results of 11-0 and 6-0 in the mornings were an opportunity to display offensive skills, and close games in the afternoons were opportunities to demonstrate defense and character. Though defeated in overtime of the finals, our players looked impressive in their use of techniques and concepts learned this fall at MYS. We are very proud of our players!

2006 Boys Green

Our 2006 Boys Green team continued its memorable and undefeated Fall 2016 season by winning the Patriot Division of the Bethesda Premier Cup. The McLean 05G Silver team competed in the Hunt Country Classic Tournament in Warrenton, VA this past weekend. Their exciting competition started and ended with the Loudoun 05G Silver team. While they lost their first match to Loudoun 2-1 (it was a close match, McLean had the lead for most of the game, and it was hard fought amongst these two competitively skilled teams), McLean went on to defeat Orange Fire 2-0 and SYC Phoenix Black 3-0 in the semi-finals. Earning their way to the Final Championship game, it was a re-match for McLean and Loudoun, but this time in frigid cold weather and high winds. This second match in two days between these two teams was played as competitively and with as much determination as their first match despite the tough weather conditions. While McLean fought hard for the final win, their tournament journey ended as a finalist with a 1-0 loss.

In the finals, we took and lost a 2-0 lead and finished the game tied at 3-3: it all went down to sudden death in the penalty kicks, which we won 6-5. It was nerve-wracking, but a great effort and performance by U11 Boys Gold!"

2005 Girls Green "Congratulations to the MYS 05 Green team, which overcame excellent competition and some atmospheric adversity in capturing the championship at the 2016 Discovery Cup over the weekend. In the championship match, Hotspur faced the Chicago Fire Academy Raiders (IL) who had gone undefeated to that point. Both teams fought in the grueling mid-day Texas heat which was close to 100 degrees. In the eighty minutes of regulation play, the game was tied 1-1. The game went in to extra time, but no goals were scored. Ultimately the game was decided in a penalty kick shootout with McLean scoring the winner after eight rounds of shots.

"I'm so proud of the boys. We worked very hard for this honor," McLean head coach Jamil Walker said. "All the teams we competed against were top-level, and to break out of this strong group as National Champions is a dream come true." Walker, is a former MLS professional player for DC United, and was the 2014 National Youth Soccer Coaches Association Coach of the Year.

McLean U15 Boys Claim USYS National Championship

Kicks from the mark were needed to determine a winner in the Under-15 Boys age group between CFA Raiders (IL) and McLean 00 Green (VA), which ultimately saw McLean claim the national title. The match between two teams who qualified via the US Youth Soccer National League was also a rematch of the second day of group play, which resulted in a 2-1 CFA win. CFA Raiders (IL) got on the board in the 51st minute when Fernando Barragan finished off a cross from the right side for the point-blank goal. However, just like in the group stage match between the two sides, McLean would respond when 2015 National Championships Best XI player Daniel-Diaz Bonilla's near-post striker beat the keeper and found the back of the net to knot things up at one apiece.

Both sides would produce chances in the final minutes and extra time, but a goal was not in the cards. Things were still knotted up after the initial five kicks, and it took until the eighth set of kicks, when McLean keeper Nathan Paolozzi blocked Julio Acosta's shot before Spencer Gregory buried his kick to give his side a national title.
