League Overview

In January 2013, fifteen of the clubs formed the Club Champions League to further their common goals and growth. The inaugural CCL season along with a unified league schedule began play in the fall of '13.

The CCL is managed by a Board of Directors made up of the Directors of Coaching from each of its members clubs. The Board has three scheduled meetings: one at the end of each season and the annual meeting held in conjunction with the National Soccer Coaches Convention in January.

Unique to the CCL is the coordinated traveling schedule. Each club's entire contingent of teams (U11-U17, boys and girls) travels together to all away games. Start times are staggered allowing coaching directors and multiplayer families to watch several games. The compact schedule also provides each club with greater flexibility in scheduling tournaments and friendly games during the regular season.

In January 2015, CCL II was approved to expand the club-centric model and the league's player development pyramid. In September 2015, CCL PRO23 was approved to provide the region's most professional, competitive and unique Under 23 league as a player retention opportunity. Although a 9-10s developmental division began fall 2014, in January 2016, NextGen was approved to accurately reflect the 9-10s division as the next generation of CCL players and families. In the summer of 2018, NextGen expanded to include NextGen Virginia as a club-to-club based developmental league and NextGen Maryland as a team-based developmental league. Today, players compete in the Club Champions League within various divisions of the league based on club selection and ability appropriate to them. In 2018, the CCL re-branded its divisions to accurately reflect the organization's growth and player development pathway: PRO23 (ages 16+), Premiership (11-19s, boys and girls), Championship (11-17s, boys and girls), NextGen (9-10s, boys and girls).

Competitive play is offered for both boys and girls divisions U11 through U17. Divisional winners are recognized at the end of each season. Standings are determined by weekly competition: three points for wins, one point for ties; and no points for losses. CCL North also offers U9 and U10 developmental play.

CCL hosts various showcase and additive events for CCL members.
